The marine layer keeps outdoor and rooftop condensers wet and grimy for hours most afternoons, and that film cuts heat rejection until the machine trips on high pressure sooner than it would inland. I clean the coil on a shorter interval than I'd set in a drier city and check the fins for early corrosion while I'm in there.
Back-room heat soak in tight storefronts. A lot of Daly City's post-war strip mall spaces give the ice machine a back room shared with a walk-in condensing unit and barely a foot of clearance. Both units recirculate each other's hot air, head pressure climbs, and the ice machine shuts down first because it's the more sensitive of the two. I open up clearance where I can and correct the venting instead of just cleaning the coil and hoping.
No-harvest faults on high-turn boba and diner units. When a Westlake or Top of the Hill counter machine won't drop ice during a lunch rush, it's usually the water curtain not tripping the harvest valve or a frosted harvest sensor. I carry the valve coil and curtain switch on the truck, so most of these involve parts we usually stock.
