Scotsman ice machine repair, done by an independent shop
Scotsman runs a lot of bars, cafes, and restaurants around here. When one of their machines stops making ice, the bar runs dry fast, so we keep these calls moving. We service Scotsman as an independent shop. We’re not a factory dealer and we don’t claim a Scotsman authorization. What we are is a CSLB-licensed refrigeration outfit (#1136642) that works on this equipment every week.
Most Scotsman problems we see come down to a handful of causes. Prodigy ELITE cubers throw error codes that point at water, harvest, or sensor trouble. A machine that makes thin or cloudy cubes, or won’t drop a harvest, is usually scaled up, low on water flow, or has a failing water valve. Brilliance and nugget machines fail differently, often on the auger gearmotor, bearings, or the evaporator. When a machine short-cycles or never gets cold, we’re looking at the sealed system: a weak compressor, a refrigerant leak, or a clogged condenser starving it for airflow.
We carry the common stuff on the truck. Water inlet valves, float and water sensors, contactors, fan motors, relays, harvest thermistors, and cleaner and descaler for a full delime. Scale is the number one killer of ice machines in Bay Area water, and a lot of “broken” machines just need a real cleaning and a fresh water filter. We’ll tell you straight if that’s all it is.
Sealed-system work we do in-house. That means proper recovery, evacuation, and a weighed-in charge, not topping off a leak and walking away. We hold EPA Section 608 certification (#1279674151528) for refrigerant handling, and we’re trained on R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant through Mainstream Engineering, which matters on newer units. If your Scotsman uses a remote condenser, we handle the line set and the outdoor unit too.
Here’s how the money works. The diagnostic is a flat $75, and we waive it if you book the repair. Before we turn a wrench on anything past the diagnosis, you get a written quote. No surprise invoices. A water valve or sensor is a modest fix. A compressor or evaporator on an older machine can run into real money, and at some point a 12-year-old cuber isn’t worth saving. We’ll give you the honest call on repair versus replace, including what a new bin or head unit would cost, so you can decide.
We also keep up a maintenance schedule for shops that want to stop the 6 a.m. emergencies. Twice-a-year deliming, filter changes, and a condenser cleaning will add years to a machine and keep the ice clean.
We dispatch out of San Ramon, 7 AM to 7 PM, seven days a week, across the Tri-Valley and greater East Bay up to Concord. After-hours emergencies ring the same number: (925) 999-4095. Bay Area Refrigeration Service is part of ADRIUM Service Solutions, alongside Bay Area HVAC Service and Bay Area Refrigeration Service, so if your ice machine, HVAC, and espresso setup all need a hand, it’s one shop to call.
