Salt-laden air pits aluminum condenser fins and eats through unprotected copper tubing over a few years, and I have opened undercounter Scotsman units in Pacifica with pinhole leaks in the coil that had nothing to do with age or use, just corrosion from the location. - Salt air corrosion on condenser coils. The aluminum fins on a Scotsman condenser pit and corrode faster this close to the ocean, and airflow through the coil drops long before the compressor itself is the problem. We clean and inspect the coil first on every Pacifica call, and where the fins have degraded past cleaning, we replace the coil rather than chase a symptom that keeps coming back.
- Coastal corrosion causing sealed-system leaks. A pinhole leak from a corroded coil shows up as a machine that runs but never gets cold, or one that short-cycles as the charge drops. We recover and evacuate the system under EPA #1279674151528, replace the leaking coil section, and weigh in a fresh charge, and we are R290 trained through Mainstream Engineering for the newer hydrocarbon units.
- Harvest and scale issues from local water. Scale on the evaporator plate slows harvest the same way it does anywhere, and a Prodigy ELITE that used to fill overnight starts leaving thin cubes. We descale the plate and reservoir and replace the filter, and check the coil condition at the same time, since the two problems often show up together out here.

How fast can you get to Pacifica?
Getting to Pacifica from our technician's base in San Mateo means cutting over through South San Francisco or up Skyline, since there is no straight road along the coast. It takes a bit longer than our other Peninsula stops, but it still beats crossing the bridge from San Ramon. We give a real arrival window, not a same-day promise.
