What we do. What we fix.

Ice machines we fix

Andrew sat through the Manitowoc Ice and Koolaire Field Service Seminar at Pentair Water Solutions in February 2026, with Jonathan Binley running the class. That covered Indigo NXT modular heads, NEO undercounter units, QuietQube remote-condenser systems, and Koolaire. So when we say factory-trained on those, we mean it, and we file Manitowoc and Koolaire warranty claims ourselves. To be clear about what that is: we’re certified to service the machines, not a factory sales dealer.

Hoshizaki gets the same treatment as an independent shop. KM cubers, DCM cubelet machines, the IM line. We diagnose, hand you a written number, fix it, then confirm the unit is hitting the production rate on its spec sheet before we leave. Same goes for Scotsman and True ice heads.

Kitchens and bars don’t run on a 9-to-5 clock, and neither do we. The after-hours line is the same number, (925) 999-4095. A Friday-night bar with an empty bin bleeds money by the hour.

Failures we see over and over

Indigo NXT, high-pressure lockout. Almost always a filthy condenser coil. The panel threw the cleaning reminder for weeks, somebody ignored it, head pressure climbed past the cutout. We clean the coil, change the air filter, reset the interval in the panel, and put you on a quarterly cadence. Pressure drops, the fault clears.

Indigo NXT or NEO, stuck harvest cycle. Three suspects, in order: harvest valve coil (around $70), curtain switch (around $40), control board ($480 to $620 depending on the model). We test cheapest-first. Nobody should be selling you a board before checking a $40 switch.

Hoshizaki KM, production off 20%. Scale on the evaporator plate. Our water out here is hard, and Hoshizaki’s printed deliming schedule runs too long for it. We delime, verify the cycle time, and set a six-month interval with the cleaning logged.

Hoshizaki DCM, no cubelet flow. Auger seal gone. We replace the seal and the auger gear as a pair. Swap the seal alone and you’ll see us again in six months.

Neglected water filters. Both brands, every time. Owners replace on the manual’s twelve-month schedule. East Bay water needs six. We change the filter at each PM visit and date a sticker inside the panel.

What things run

JobBallpark
Diagnostic$75 (waived with repair)
Harvest valve coilparts ~$70 + labor
Curtain switchparts ~$40 + labor
Control board (NXT/NEO)$480 to $620 + labor
Deep clean and sanitize$400 to $500 per machine

Sealed-system work stays in-house. We hold EPA #1279674151528 for refrigerant recovery and handling, and we’re trained on R290 hydrocarbon refrigerant through Mainstream Engineering, which matters on modern units. Recovery, evacuation, and weigh-in all done by us.

Twice-a-year PM and the health-code piece

We run flat-rate PM contracts for commercial ice: coil cleaning, water service, head-pressure check, sanitation-cycle verification, all documented. Restaurants in Walnut Creek, Concord, San Ramon, Pleasanton, and Oakland lean on these the most.

And the cleaning isn’t optional housekeeping. An ice machine makes something customers swallow, so the health department treats the interior like a food-contact surface. Scale, slime, and mold grow where you can’t see them, and an inspector who opens a neglected bin can write you up on the spot. The deep clean runs $400 to $500 a machine because it takes the right agents and real time.

Got an ice problem that’s actually a walk-in or reach-in problem? That’s our wheelhouse too. Different equipment, same truck. For HVAC or espresso-machine service, our sister shops Bay Area HVAC Service (bayareahvacservice.com) and Bay Area Refrigeration Service (bayarearefrigerationservice.com) handle those. We’re all part of ADRIUM Service Solutions (adriumservice.com).

What do customers ask about Commercial Ice Machine Repair?

  • What does the Manitowoc Certified credential mean?
Andrew completed the Manitowoc Ice and Koolaire Field Service Seminar at Pentair Water Solutions in February 2026 under instructor Jonathan A. Binley. We are factory-trained on Indigo NXT, NEO undercounter, QuietQube remote condenser, and Koolaire. We file Manitowoc and Koolaire warranty paperwork directly. The certificate is on the Manitowoc brand page.
  • How often should a Manitowoc Indigo NXT be deep-cleaned?
Every six months on Bay Area water. The printed manual says twelve. The manual is written for average North American water chemistry; Bay Area runs hard, and the scale loading on the evap plate cuts production fast if you wait a year. Restaurants that follow the six-month schedule get four more years out of the machine.
  • Can you do an emergency call for a restaurant on Friday night?
Yes. The after-hours line is (925) 999-4095. Bar and restaurant ice does not wait for Monday. We prioritize commercial-ice calls inside our service window.
  • Do you offer preventive-maintenance contracts?
Yes. Flat-rate twice-yearly PM with documented coil cleaning, water-filter swap, head-pressure check, and sanitation-cycle verification. We leave the schedule taped inside the panel so the next visit is on the books.
  • Can you service Hoshizaki and Koolaire under warranty?
Yes. The Manitowoc factory training covers Koolaire (Manitowoc value brand). For Hoshizaki we follow Hoshizaki service procedures and file warranty claims directly when applicable.
