Hoshizaki in El Cerrito
Hoshizaki refrigeration in El Cerrito.
El Cerrito runs a steady independent food scene along San Pablo Avenue, with more counters in and around El Cerrito Plaza near the BART station, and a lot of those kitchens lean on Hoshizaki. KM cubers sit behind the bar or the espresso counter, and prep tables hold the line during lunch. When the cold side goes down, these owners want the actual fault found, not a part swapped on a guess.
We're independent on Hoshizaki, dispatched out of San Ramon seven days a week. The parts that fail most on these machines stay stocked on the truck, so El Cerrito calls involve parts we usually stock more often than not. A $99 diagnostic gets credited toward the repair, with the written quote coming first.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- KM cubers that stop harvesting. Regional water quality plus steady counter volume along San Pablo Avenue is enough to scale a KM head that's gone too long without a descale. The tell is cloudy, thin cubes, or the machine giving up on harvest altogether. Rather than jump to a new unit, we clean and rebuild first, since most no-ice complaints come down to scale buildup, a stuck water valve, or a harvest cycle that never finishes.
- Water pump failure around year seven. Year seven is about when KM water pumps start failing. First sign is a loud pump at startup as the bearing wears, then an intermittent high-amp fault that shows up even while the machine is still making ice. We swap the entire pump assembly rather than just the motor, because a failed bearing usually cracks the impeller too, and a half-fix like that just means we're back for a callback.
- Prep-table thermistor drift. The prep and sandwich tables along San Pablo Avenue run a discharge-air thermistor, same as Hoshizaki's refrigerated display cases, and it drifts warm as it ages. A rail meant to hold in the mid-30s can creep into the low 40s before anyone on a busy shift notices. Calibrated thermistors ride the truck, so it's usually a common repair with a part we usually stock.

FAQ
Hoshizaki in El Cerrito questions, answered.
-
My Hoshizaki cube head slowed way down. Is it scale or a part?
Nine times out of ten it's scale, given how much volume these counters run, but we don't assume. We descale and check the water circuit first, then move to the water valve, float, and harvest cycle if that's not it. You'll know whether it's a clean or a part before we quote anything. -
Are you a Hoshizaki authorized dealer?
No. We work Hoshizaki without any factory-authorization claim, as an independent shop. Our credentials are Manitowoc certification on the ice-machine side, EPA 608 (#1279674151528), and R290 hydrocarbon training for the newer units. -
Can you prioritize an outage in El Cerrito, and how far is that from San Ramon?
Yes. Call (925) 999-4095, tell us it's down, and a dead Hoshizaki machine or a warm box jumps ahead of routine work. El Cerrito is Contra Costa County, forty to forty five minutes out via 580 to 24 to 80, and it's part of our regular Berkeley and Richmond Inner East Bay route. For a scheduled, non-emergency visit, you'll get a specific arrival time in writing.
