Crathco in Union City
Crathco refrigeration in Union City.
A Crathco cold or frozen dispenser earns its keep by keeping the bowl moving. The first failure we get called for in Union City is a magnetic-drive coupling that quits, so the auger sits still and the product separates into warm syrup on top and slush at the bottom. Places along the Union Landing strip off 880 run these units hard through the lunch and dinner push, and a stalled bowl means a station you cannot sell from.
We are an independent commercial refrigeration shop. Andrew Kuznetsov runs the work out of San Ramon, holds an EPA 608 certification for the sealed side, and carries CSLB license #1136642. We are not a brand dealer and we make no claim of factory authorization for Crathco. What we bring is the repair itself, done on your counter, on the taqueria and halal-market blocks off Alvarado-Niles and Decoto where these dispensers hold agua fresca, horchata, and cold tea.
The visit starts at a $75 diagnostic, and that fee is waived when you have us do the repair. You get a written quote before we open anything up, so the number is set before the wrench moves.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Magnetic-drive coupling and auger that stopped turning. Crathco D-series and FROZEN bowls spin the auger through a magnetic coupling instead of a shaft through the wall, which keeps the tank sealed. When the drive magnet cracks or the coupling wears, the motor still hums but the auger stands still. We check the motor magnet and the bowl-side magnet as a pair, look for a seized auger bushing that is dragging the coupling out of sync, and replace the worn half so the bowl turns and mixes again.
- Agitator and pump motor with worn bearings. A gear motor that grinds, buzzes, or runs hot is usually telling you the bearings are going. On the spray and bubbler models the pump motor pushes product over the cold cone, and once its bearings dry out the flow drops and the motor draws more current. We test the winding and the current draw, decide whether the motor is worth a bearing job or a swap, and get the agitation back to full speed before it stalls in the middle of service.
- Bowl gaskets and shaft seals that leak. Sticky puddles under the drip tray almost always trace back to a hard bowl gasket or a worn shaft seal. On R290 sealed units a leak that reaches the base can also foul the condenser area, so we do not let it ride. We pull the bowl, replace the main gasket and the O-rings on the shaft, clean the seat, and reseat everything so the unit holds product instead of feeding your floor.

FAQ
Crathco in Union City questions, answered.
-
Will you come to Union City from San Ramon, or is that too far out?
Union City is a normal run for us. We come over 680 to Fremont and cut across to the Union Landing area on 880, or drop down through Hayward when traffic on the interchange is bad. Either way it is a short trip and we cover the whole city, including the shops along Decoto Road and Alvarado-Niles. -
My Crathco bowl is turning but the drink is warm. Is that the same problem as a stopped bowl?
No, those are two different faults. A warm bowl that still spins points at the cold side, meaning the compressor, the R290 charge, or the cold cone, not the drive coupling. We check the sealed-system pressures and the cone temperature to find out which, and we tell you what we find in writing before any repair. -
Do you work on the frozen-drink models or only the cold-bowl ones?
We handle both. The FROZEN and Mini-Pro units add a freezing cycle and a torque load the plain cold bowls do not have, so the augers and couplings on them wear differently. We service the D-series cold bowls, the frozen models, and the bubbler and spray dispensers, and we carry common augers, couplings, and seals on the truck so many jobs finish in one visit.
