Crathco in Pleasant Hill

Crathco refrigeration in Pleasant Hill.

A Crathco bowl that runs warm on a busy afternoon is usually a refrigeration problem, not a mixing problem. On the D-series and Mini-Pro units around Contra Costa Boulevard, we see cold plates that stop pulling heat, R290 sealed systems that have lost charge, and evaporator coils packed with dust from a back-of-house fan. When the drink turns to slush on one side and warm juice on the other, the cooling side needs a real diagnosis.

We repair frozen and cold dispensers for the quick-serve chains along the Contra Costa strip, the cafes near the downtown plaza, and the food spots that feed students at Diablo Valley College. Most of these bowls run all day, so a weak compressor or a stuck condenser fan shows up fast in the product temperature.

Bay Area Refrigeration Service is an independent shop run by Andrew Kuznetsov out of San Ramon. We are EPA 608 certified and licensed under CSLB #1136642. The diagnostic is $75 and we waive it when you book the repair, and you get a written quote before we order parts or open the sealed system.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Refrigeration and cold plate not holding temperature. This is the failure we lead with in Pleasant Hill. On R290 Crathco systems the work starts with reading how the unit behaves and checking condenser airflow before anyone touches refrigerant. We clean choked coils, test the compressor and its start components, and recover and recharge to spec only when the sealed system is the real fault. Over-freezing gets the same care, since a bad thermostat or control board can lock the bowl into a solid block as easily as a warm unit can spoil product.
  • Agitator and pump motor running rough. When a spray or bubbler model gets loud or the flow drops off, the agitator or pump motor is usually tired. We check the motor draw, listen for worn bearings, and replace the gear or motor when it is dragging the drive. A rough motor also warms the bowl by working too hard, so we confirm the product temperature recovers after the part goes in.
  • Bowl gaskets and shaft seals weeping. A slow drip under the counter points at the shaft seal behind the auger or a hardened bowl gasket. We pull the bowl, clean the sealing surfaces, and fit fresh seals and O-rings rated for the unit. Left alone, a weeping shaft lets syrup creep into the drive area and makes a small leak into a bigger repair.

FAQ

Crathco in Pleasant Hill questions, answered.

  • Can you reach Pleasant Hill from San Ramon for a dispenser repair?
Yes. Pleasant Hill is a straight run north on 680 from our San Ramon base, past Alamo and Walnut Creek, so a shop near Contra Costa Boulevard or the downtown plaza is an easy stop for us. We cover the Diablo Valley area as part of our normal route.
  • My Crathco bowl freezes solid overnight. Is that a refrigeration fault?
Usually it is a control or thermostat problem rather than low refrigerant. When the cold side runs with nothing to stop it, the product turns to a block. We check the thermostat, the control board, and the sensor placement, then confirm the sealed system is healthy before we quote the fix.
  • Do you work on R290 sealed systems?
Yes. Many Crathco D-series and Mini-Pro units use R290, and we are EPA 608 certified to recover and charge them. We follow the flammable-refrigerant safety steps as part of the job and never open a sealed system without a written quote first.
