Crathco in Blackhawk
Crathco refrigeration in Blackhawk.
A Crathco agitator or pump motor that starts to grind is running on failing bearings, and in Blackhawk that noise tends to show up mid-event. As the bearings wear, the shaft wobbles, the motor pulls harder, and the bowl either slows down or quits. We hear a lot of these on catering units that run long hours through a wedding or a club dinner. We pull the motor, measure the play, and replace it before it seizes and takes the coupling with it.
Blackhawk has very few storefronts. Most of the Crathco work here sits inside the country club kitchens and the catering setups behind the gated communities. That means a dispenser often has to perform on a schedule, for a set event, with no backup on hand. We plan the visit around that and bring the parts to finish.
The shop is Bay Area Refrigeration Service, owned by Andrew Kuznetsov and based just up the road in San Ramon. We are EPA 608 certified and hold CSLB #1136642. You pay $99 for the diagnostic, we credit it back against the repair, and the written quote comes before we start.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Drive motor grinds under load. Worn bearings in a Crathco agitator or pump motor make a low grind that gets worse as the bowl fills. The extra friction heats the motor and can trip it offline in the middle of service. We open the motor, inspect the bearings and shaft, and fit a replacement motor when the wear is past what a cleaning can fix.
- Drip forming at the bowl base. On catering units a slow leak under the bowl usually means the shaft seal has hardened or the gasket has taken a set. The drip can track down into the drive area if it runs long enough. We remove the bowl, install fresh Crathco seals and O-rings, and reseat the assembly so nothing weeps during an event.
- Frozen bowl not holding texture. When a Crathco FROZEN unit will not hold a proper slush, the sealed system needs a look. These often run R290, so we gauge the charge, check the compressor, and read the control. We dial the freeze back to a servable texture instead of a soupy or rock-hard bowl.

FAQ
Crathco in Blackhawk questions, answered.
-
Blackhawk is gated. Can your tech get in for a scheduled repair?
Yes, as long as the club or the property lets the gate know we are coming. We are only a short drive from San Ramon through Danville and Alamo, so we can hit a specific event window without trouble. -
Can you service a unit the night before a club event?
We schedule around your event calendar when we can. Tell us the date, and we set the visit early enough that the Crathco bowl is tested and running before guests arrive. Give us a few days of lead time and we will lock in a window. -
Is it worth repairing an older D-series, or should we replace it?
Most D-series units are worth repairing. The parts that fail, couplings, motors, seals, and controls, are all serviceable. We give you the written repair quote first so you can weigh it against a new machine before you decide.
