If instead the FROZEN bowl locks into a solid block, look at the thermostat and the control board first, they're the usual culprits behind an over-freeze. Gauges go on the sealed system before we touch the control side, and we bring the freeze point back to spec.
- Grinding or whine from the drive motor. Worn bearings in a Crathco agitator or pump motor show up first as noise, a grinding or a whine that gets louder over a few weeks. Left alone, the motor pulls higher current until it eventually locks up. We check play in the bearings and shaft, and when it's past spec, a replacement motor goes in and the bowl goes back to turning quietly.
- Bowl paddle sits still. A Crathco unit that hums along while the paddle sits still has lost the magnetic connection between the drive and the auger. We pull both magnets to check for wear and scrape off any buildup on the shaft that's keeping them from locking. A matching replacement coupling goes back in, and we confirm the paddle is actually turning before we call it fixed.
