Crathco in Castro Valley
Crathco refrigeration in Castro Valley.
A puddle under a Crathco bowl is the first thing owners notice in Castro Valley, and it almost always traces to a worn shaft seal, a flat bowl gasket, or a cracked O-ring. Product seeps past the seal, runs down the shaft, and pools on the counter or inside the base. Left for a few weeks it can reach the drive motor and turn a cheap seal job into a motor job. We strip the bowl, replace the seals and O-rings, and stop the leak at the source.
Most of the dispensers we service in Castro Valley sit in the strip-mall restaurants and markets along Castro Valley Boulevard. These are busy suburban spots with tight margins, so a sticky, leaking bowl that draws flies is a health and a sales problem at the same time. We keep the common Crathco gasket and seal kits stocked so the fix does not wait on an order.
Bay Area Refrigeration Service is an independent operation. Andrew Kuznetsov runs it from San Ramon, holds EPA 608 certification, and works under CSLB #1136642. The service call is $75, taken off the bill when you approve the repair, and we hand you a written quote before doing the work.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Leak pooling under the bowl. A leak at the bowl base is a seal problem. On Crathco units the shaft seal and the bowl gasket harden over time, and the O-rings crack, letting product weep out. We pull the bowl down, swap the full seal set for fresh Crathco parts, and reassemble so the counter stays clean and dry.
- Auger paddle will not spin. If the bowl fills but the paddle stays put, the magnetic-drive coupling is not gripping. A cracked drive magnet or a bound auger shaft breaks the magnetic link between motor and paddle. We check both magnets, clear the shaft, and replace the coupling so product circulates again.
- Drinks coming out warm. Warm product from a Crathco cold-plate or Mini-Pro unit means the sealed system is not pulling temperature. Many of these are R290, so we check the charge, the compressor, and the thermostat with gauges. We repair the sealed side and confirm the bowl holds cold before we leave.

FAQ
Crathco in Castro Valley questions, answered.
-
You are over in San Ramon. Do you come out to Castro Valley?
We do. The trip out through Dublin is easy, and we also cover Hayward and San Leandro, so a call on Castro Valley Boulevard fits our Inner-East-Bay route. -
The bowl looks cloudy and the seal keeps leaking. Is that the same repair?
Usually yes. A leaking seal often comes with a scratched or cloudy bowl from grit working past the O-ring. We replace the seal set and check the bowl and shaft for wear so the new seal is not chewed up by an old surface. -
Do you handle both the drink side and the refrigeration side?
Yes. We repair the mechanical parts, the couplings, augers, motors, and seals, and the sealed refrigeration system on the same visit. Being EPA 608 certified means we can service the R290 units without sending them out.
