Atosa in South San Francisco
Atosa refrigeration in South San Francisco.
South San Francisco still paints The Industrial City on the hillside sign, and these days the name fits on both sides of the freeway. West of 101, Grand Avenue and the surrounding blocks run a solid strip of independent restaurants and taquerias, and plenty of the newer ones opened on Atosa reach-ins and prep tables because the price works for a small buildout. East of 101, the biotech campuses run their own cafeterias and micro-kitchens, and the food-service contractors staffing those buildouts lean on Atosa for the same reason. We service Atosa as an independent shop, no dealer claims, on either side of the freeway.
The failures do not change much between a Grand Avenue taqueria and a campus cafeteria: an evaporator fan motor seizing, a door gasket stretched from heavy use, a condensate drain plugged with grease, and on the newer units, R290 propane refrigerant that needs a tech certified to touch it. We carry the common parts on the truck, so a lot of South San Francisco calls involve parts we usually stock.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Reach-in fans and gaskets. Atosa MBF reach-ins in the Grand Avenue kitchens fail at the evaporator fan motor and the door gasket. A restaurant leaning on the doors through a full dinner service stretches the seal inside the first year or two, and warm air gets past it fast. We swap the gasket, clear the evaporator, and check the seal through its full swing.
- Prep-table drains and rails. The MGF prep tables clog at the condensate drain and the rail swings warm once the coil ices over. This shows up in both a small taqueria kitchen and a campus dining hall running the same equipment at higher volume. We blow the line clear, clean the coil, and drop in an inline screen where the kitchen wants one.
- R290 hydrocarbon work for campus buildouts. Several of the newer Atosa undercounters going into the biotech campus cafeterias east of 101 run R290 propane refrigerant, and a food-service contractor usually wants documentation that the tech is certified for it. We're HC(A3) trained through Mainstream Engineering and hold EPA #1279674151528, and we do leaks, compressor swaps, and recharges in-house with recovery, evacuation, and a weighed-in charge.

FAQ
Atosa in South San Francisco questions, answered.
-
Do you cover Atosa on both sides of the 101 here?
Yes, Grand Avenue and the surrounding restaurants as well as the biotech campus cafeterias east of the freeway. We service Atosa as an independent shop, no factory claim. We provide a written repair estimate after the on-site diagnosis and before any work starts. -
Our campus food-service manager asked if we're certified for the refrigerant. What do we tell them?
Tell them we're HC(A3)/R290 trained through Mainstream Engineering and hold EPA #1279674151528. The sealed-system work, recovery, evacuation, and weigh-in, is all done in-house, and we can put that in writing for their vendor file. -
How fast can you get to South San Francisco?
Our Peninsula technician is based in San Mateo, a short run north to South San Francisco either side of 101. We push a genuine outage to the front of the schedule. The $99 diagnostic is credited toward the repair.
