Los Altos doesn’t run a lot of commercial square footage. What’s here is concentrated: a few blocks of restaurants and cafes on State Street and Main Street, the grocery stores along El Camino Real, and the clubhouse kitchen and bar at the Los Altos Golf & Country Club. The bigger story is behind the hedges. The teardown-rebuilds and full remodels on the larger lots toward Los Altos Hills run Sub-Zero built-ins like it’s the standard kitchen appliance, not an upgrade.
Downtown restaurants and the grocery aisle
The State Street and Main Street kitchens run True, Turbo Air, and Beverage-Air reach-ins, undercounter prep tables, and the occasional walk-in box in back. We chase the usual failures here: a condenser coil packed with grease and dust, an evaporator fan motor that’s seized, a door gasket that’s stopped sealing and left the compressor running nonstop. Sealed-system work, a slow leak, a dead compressor, a clogged cap tube, we handle in-house, recovering and evacuating and weighing in the charge under EPA #1279674151528, and we’re R290 trained for the newer self-contained units the delis are switching to.
Ice behind the bar
Manitowoc and Hoshizaki cover most of the ice heads in town, at the restaurants and at the club. Andrew is Manitowoc-certified, factory-trained on Indigo NXT, NEO undercounter, and QuietQube through the Manitowoc Ice and Koolaire seminar (certified to service them, not a dealer). We handle Hoshizaki and Scotsman as an independent shop. Peninsula water isn’t as hard as a lot of the East Bay, but scale still catches up with a machine that’s never been descaled, and that’s the call we get most: slow harvest, cloudy cubes, a bin that won’t fill.
Sub-Zero in the hills
The estate kitchens run Sub-Zero columns, drawers, and dedicated wine rooms, plus U-Line beverage centers in the home bars and butler’s pantries. We service all of it as an independent shop, no factory authorization, just an honest diagnosis and the parts to fix it. It’s a longer drive from our San Ramon base than our East Bay calls, but a commercial outage or a dead ice machine still gets pushed to the front of the day, and a Sub-Zero appointment gets scheduled quickly too.
The diagnostic is $99, credited toward the repair, with a written quote before anything gets touched. Hours are 7AM to 7PM, seven days.
