What we do. What we fix.
What we fix
We keep working kitchens and bars cold across the Tri-Valley and greater East Bay: back-bar fridges, glycol-chilled beer trunks, walk-ins, reach-ins, prep tables, undercounter beverage centers and refrigerated display cases. The brands a real kitchen runs on, Perlick, Atosa, Hoshizaki, True, Turbo Air, Beverage-Air, Continental, Traulsen. The diagnostic is $75, waived if you have us do the repair, and you get parts and labor in writing before anybody turns a wrench.
Most of these calls follow a few patterns. A gasket has stretched. A coil is packed with grease and dust. A condensate line is plugged. Or the glycol mix has drifted off spec. We stock the usual gaskets, condenser-fan and evap-fan motors, and an inline tool for clearing condensate drains right on the truck. Sealed-system work stays in house with full recovery, evacuation and weigh-in. Our EPA #1279674151528 (Section 608) covers refrigerant handling, and we’re HC(A3) / R290 hydrocarbon trained through Mainstream Engineering, which is what most current Atosa units run. That’s usually the reason your last tech said he “couldn’t get parts.”
After-hours line for bar and restaurant work is the same number: (925) 999-4095. A bar emergency at 9pm Friday isn’t going to wait until Monday.
What the usual failures run
| Symptom | Typical fix | Parts + labor | Timeline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Box quits cooling | Reach-in compressor replacement | From $500 labor plus materials and the compressor | Diagnosed first, quoted in writing |
| Temp drifts, controls misread | Controller or thermostat swap | $250 to $350 plus the part | Usually one visit |
| Compressor never shuts off, power bill climbing | Worn door gaskets, caught on a PM visit | PM from $200 per unit | Quarterly schedule |
Real symptoms, real fixes
Perlick back-bar, beer pouring warm. Either the glycol trunk insulation soaked up condensate or the glycol concentration drifted. We check the percentage with a refractometer, flush and refill if it’s off, and re-insulate the run between chiller and tower. One visit handles most of these.
Back-bar fridge icing up after the rush. Bartenders prop the door during service, the gasket stretches, and the evaporator ices the second things slow down. Gasket swap takes under half an hour, and we carry the common Perlick gaskets.
Atosa prep table, water pooling on the floor. Condensate drain clogged with grease and food debris. We pull the line, blow it clear, and fit an inline screen if the layout allows. We note the clean interval so you know when it’s due again.
Hoshizaki sushi case holding warm. On the older platforms the discharge-airflow thermistor drifts and the case sits six to eight degrees over setpoint. We keep the calibrated thermistor stocked and confirm the hold across a full cycle before we leave.
Walk-in evaporator iced over. Defrost timer drift or a dead termination thermostat. We reset the cycle, run the hot-gas or electric defrost through completely, and write the changes inside the panel.
A sealed-system repair is the priciest job on a commercial box, so we’ll tell you straight whether it’s worth fixing or replacing before we start. Quarterly preventive-maintenance visits, coil cleaning, glycol testing, drain clearing and gasket checks, add a couple years to most Atosa units and keep Perlick draft pouring at setpoint.
