Sub-Zero in San Mateo
Sub-Zero refrigeration in San Mateo.
We are Bay Area Refrigeration Service, an independent shop based in San Ramon, and we repair built-in Sub-Zero refrigeration in San Mateo. Downtown San Mateo is known for its restaurant rows along 25th Avenue and B Street, but the Sub-Zero work I do here is residential, in the kitchens of homes around Baywood, Hayward Park, and the hills toward Highway 92.
San Mateo is also where our Peninsula-based technician lives, so it's the closest stop on his route instead of the farthest. That matters on a Sub-Zero call, where a slow leak or a failing compressor is easier to catch early with a technician who's already close by instead of one starting from across the bridge.
The diagnostic is $99, credited toward the repair, and we give you a written quote before we open the cabinet. We're not a Sub-Zero factory dealer, we're an independent shop, licensed under CSLB #1136642 and EPA 608 certified.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Compressor and start component failures on aging 600 and 700 series units. A good share of San Mateo's built-ins are Classic 600 and 700 series cabinets that have been in place for fifteen years or more. When one won't start, I test the start relay and capacitor before I condemn the compressor, since a bad start component costs a fraction of a compressor swap and fixes the problem just as well when that's the actual fault.
- Wine column drift in Baywood and Hayward Park remodels. The remodels around Baywood and Hayward Park often add a 400-series Sub-Zero or U-Line wine column next to the main built-in, and the calls I take are usually a zone that won't hold its set point. We check the door gasket, the evaporator fan, and sensor calibration, and we check the sealed system on compressor-cooled models before we blame a control board.
- Ice maker and dispenser faults on refrigerator drawers. The undercounter refrigerator and freezer drawer combinations common in San Mateo kitchen islands sometimes carry an ice maker that has quit filling or a dispenser that's jammed. We check the water inlet valve, the fill tube for a freeze-up, and the ice maker module itself before we assume the whole unit needs to come out.

FAQ
Sub-Zero in San Mateo questions, answered.
-
Is your Sub-Zero work in San Mateo residential, or do you also service the restaurants on 25th Avenue?
Our Sub-Zero work in San Mateo is residential, in home kitchens around Baywood, Hayward Park, and the neighborhoods off Highway 92. The restaurants along 25th Avenue and B Street run commercial refrigeration brands, a separate side of our business. -
Why is your response faster in San Mateo than in other Peninsula cities?
Our Peninsula-based technician lives in San Mateo, so this is the shortest drive on his route instead of the longest. We still schedule a real appointment window rather than promise same-day service on every call, since sealed-system diagnosis takes the time it takes. -
Are you authorized by Sub-Zero for warranty work?
No. We're an independent repair shop, not affiliated with Sub-Zero, licensed under CSLB #1136642 and EPA 608 certified. We diagnose and repair Sub-Zero units and give you a written quote first, but we don't perform factory warranty service.
