Sub-Zero in Pacifica
Sub-Zero refrigeration in Pacifica.
We are Bay Area Refrigeration Service, an independent shop based in San Ramon, and we repair built-in Sub-Zero refrigeration in Pacifica. The homes closest to Rockaway Beach, Sharp Park, and Linda Mar sit right on the coast, and the calls I get here concentrate in the larger remodeled homes along the ridge where a Classic or 700 series column went in behind custom panels.
Salt-laden air is corrosive, and it doesn't stay outside. It gets into the condenser fins, onto hinge pins and door hardware, and into the drain pan under the evaporator. I've pulled evaporator drain pans in Pacifica that had rusted through years earlier than I'd expect on the same cabinet in San Ramon or Danville, and it's a real coastal-air problem, not something we bring up to sell parts.
The diagnostic is $99, credited toward the repair, and we give you a written quote before any work starts. We're an independent shop, not a Sub-Zero factory dealer, licensed under CSLB #1136642 and EPA 608 certified.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Corroded condenser fins cutting cooling capacity. Salt air pits and corrodes aluminum condenser fins faster along the Pacifica coast than almost anywhere else on our map. I look at fin condition before I look at the compressor when a coastal unit is running long, because corroded fins lose surface area and the compressor just works harder to compensate. We clean what we can and replace the coil once the fins have corroded past the point of doing their job.
- Rusted-through evaporator drain pans. On older Classic 600 and 700 series cabinets, the evaporator drain pan is a common casualty of the salt air here, and a pan that rusts through lets water drip where it shouldn't instead of draining out. We replace the pan and check the drain line and the defrost heater at the same time, since we're already in that section of the cabinet.
- Door hardware and hinge corrosion on coastal installs. Stainless hinges and door hardware still corrode in this air over enough years, and I check hinge movement before I replace a gasket that keeps failing, because a seized hinge pulling the door out of square chews through gaskets faster than normal wear ever would. We free up or replace the hinge and reset the door so it closes flush again.

FAQ
Sub-Zero in Pacifica questions, answered.
-
Does salt air really cause more Sub-Zero problems in Pacifica?
Yes, and it's not a sales pitch. I see condenser fins, drain pans, and door hardware corrode here years earlier than the same parts do on cabinets we service in San Ramon or Danville. It's a real coastal-air problem. -
How fast can you get to Pacifica for a repair?
We keep a technician based on the Peninsula, in San Mateo County, and Pacifica is inside his regular route, which is faster than dispatching from our San Ramon shop. We still book a real appointment window instead of promising same-day service on every job. -
Are you a Sub-Zero authorized dealer?
No. We're an independent repair shop, not affiliated with Sub-Zero, licensed under CSLB #1136642 and EPA 608 certified. We give you a written quote before we start any repair.
