Sub-Zero in Millbrae
Sub-Zero refrigeration in Millbrae.
We are Bay Area Refrigeration Service, an independent shop based in San Ramon, and we repair built-in Sub-Zero refrigeration across Millbrae. We are EPA 608 certified and licensed under CSLB #1136642. Sub-Zero built-ins show up all over the Mills Estate and Green Hills neighborhoods, and in the larger Hillsborough estates just up the hill, so we spend a lot of time on these units on the Mid-Peninsula.
Millbrae sits right under the marine layer that rolls in off SFO, and that damp, salty coastal air is hard on a Sub-Zero. It fouls the top-mounted condenser faster than a dry inland kitchen would, and it works on the door gaskets. Most of the calls we take here start with a box that has slowly drifted warm while the compressor runs almost nonstop.
We charge a $99 diagnostic that we credit toward the repair, and we give you a written quote before any work begins. We are not factory-authorized by Sub-Zero. We are an independent repair shop, and we tell you plainly what failed and what it takes to fix it.
Common repairs we do
What we close on the truck.
- Clogged top-mounted condenser on 648PRO and 632 built-ins. Sub-Zero puts the condenser and its fan at the top of the cabinet, and Millbrae's damp coastal air packs that coil with dust and lint. The compressor then runs hot and long, the fresh-food box drifts warm, and the grille gets hot to the touch. We pull the upper grille, deep-clean the condenser and fan blade, check the fan motor amp draw, and confirm the box pulls back down to temperature.
- Freezer-side sealed system charge loss on dual-refrigeration units. Sub-Zero runs two separate sealed systems, one for the fresh-food side and one for the freezer, so the freezer can quit while the fridge still cools. When we find a slow refrigerant leak, we recover the charge under EPA 608 rules, repair or replace the failed section, pull a vacuum, and weigh in a fresh charge to spec. We give you a written quote before any sealed-system work starts.
- Wine unit temperature drift on 424 and 427 cabinets. Hillsborough and Green Hills kitchens next door run a lot of Sub-Zero wine storage, and the common call is a zone that will not hold its set point. We check the door gasket seal, the evaporator fan, the sensor calibration, and on compressor-cooled models the sealed system, so the reds and whites sit where they should instead of swinging five or ten degrees.

FAQ
Sub-Zero in Millbrae questions, answered.
-
How long does it take you to reach Millbrae from your San Ramon base?
From San Ramon we take I-680 south to the I-238 connector, then I-880 across the San Mateo Bridge on Highway 92 and up 101 into Millbrae. Outside commute hours it runs under an hour, and we pass right through Hayward and Fremont, so we often line up Millbrae work on the same route as East Bay calls. -
Are you a factory-authorized Sub-Zero repair company?
No. We are an independent shop, EPA 608 certified and licensed under CSLB #1136642. We service and repair built-in Sub-Zero units, columns, drawers, and wine cabinets, and we source genuine and quality-equivalent parts. We are not affiliated with Sub-Zero and do not perform warranty work on the factory's behalf. -
Do you work on integrated Sub-Zero columns and wine cabinets, not just the full-size built-ins?
Yes. We repair the Designer and Classic columns, the integrated refrigerator and freezer sections, the undercounter drawers, and the 400 series wine storage. Tell us the model number off the plate inside the unit and we can bring the right parts on the first visit.
