Nuisance breaker trips from undersized 1950s circuits. A Sub-Zero compressor draws a real inrush current on startup, and a circuit wired decades ago for a smaller appliance can trip under that load, especially once the breaker itself has aged. I check the amp draw at start and at run before I touch the refrigeration side, because a unit that looks dead sometimes just needs an electrician, not a repair.
Cabinet retrofits that starve the condenser of clearance. When a Classic BI-36 goes into a kitchen built for a smaller free-standing fridge, the surrounding cabinetry sometimes gets built in without the clearance Sub-Zero specifies around the grille. The condenser then runs hot, the compressor cycles longer than it should, and the box can drift warm on a hot afternoon. We check clearance first and clean the coil before we assume a compressor is failing.
Sealed system leaks on cabinets original to the remodel era. A number of San Bruno built-ins are old enough now that I'm finding slow refrigerant leaks at brazed joints and at the evaporator. We recover the charge under EPA 608 rules, pressure test to find the leak, repair it, then pull a vacuum and weigh in a fresh charge in-house.
