U-Line in Portola Valley

U-Line refrigeration in Portola Valley.

Portola Valley stays quiet, mostly large lots set back from the road with no commercial district at all. The U-Line work here is wine reserves and undercounter ice built into home kitchens and bars, the same built-in style as neighboring Woodside, just without the horse properties.

A number of Portola Valley homes sit on private wells or draw through the town's smaller local water system rather than a big municipal supply, and that water can carry more sediment than the Cal Water towns closer to the bay. Our Peninsula technician, based in San Mateo County, treats Portola Valley as regular territory, so response is local rather than a special trip.

Common repairs we do

What we close on the truck.

  • Undercounter ice maker fouled by well or local-system water. On properties off a private well or the smaller local water system, sediment tends to clog the inlet filter and stick the float valve before scale becomes the main issue. We test the water first, then descale and replace parts based on what we actually find, not what we'd assume from a bigger city's water report.
  • Wine column control board losing its sensor reading. A wine column that won't hold setpoint anymore sometimes isn't the compressor at all, it's a control board that's stopped reading the temperature sensor correctly. We test the sensor circuit before replacing anything, since swapping the board first is a guess I try to avoid.
  • Wine reserve running long cycles without holding temperature. A wine reserve that runs almost constantly and still can't hold setpoint is often a slow refrigerant leak rather than a fan or sensor problem. We pressure test the sealed system, and if it's leaking, recovery and recharge stay in-house under EPA #1279674151528, no top-offs to mask it temporarily.

FAQ

U-Line in Portola Valley questions, answered.

  • Do you cover Portola Valley regularly?
Yes. Our Peninsula-based technician treats Portola Valley as normal territory. We give a real arrival window, not a same-day guarantee.
  • Does well water affect how these units fail out here?
It can. Sediment from a private well or the local system clogs the inlet filter and float valve differently than scale does, so we test the water before assuming it's the usual fix.
  • What does it cost to have you look at it?
$99 for the diagnostic, credited toward the repair. We're independent, no U-Line dealer claim, written quote first.
