Albany's kitchens sit in tight 1920s to 1940s bungalows along the Marin Avenue grid, and most of them were built for a stove and an icebox, not a built-in beverage center. When a U-Line goes into one of these compact kitchens or into an ADU out back, it's usually a 15-inch or 24-inch unit, and it has to come out and go back without chipping the surrounding cabinet face.
A fair number of our Albany calls come from the ADUs and basement units going in across town, and from UC Village family housing off Buchanan Street where compact appliances are standard. Water through this part of Alameda County will still scale an undercounter ice maker over time, and we stock 2000 and 3000 series U-Line parts on the truck so most jobs involve parts we usually stock.

- Compact wine unit cycling nonstop. In a small Albany kitchen, a dual-zone wine unit crammed under a counter runs its compressor harder than a full-size fridge just to hold two temperatures. The usual pattern is one zone holding and the other drifting warm, and it traces to a condenser coil packed with dust and a condenser-fan motor on its way out.
- Undercounter ice maker not producing. A U-Line ice maker in a bungalow kitchen or an ADU that's never been descaled will eventually choke on scale, but just as often the factory inlet line has kinked in the tight space behind a small cabinet. We run a longer line, check the fill cycle, and confirm the drain pump if it's a gravity-drain setup.
- Damper actuator stuck on dual-zone units. When both zones on a 2218 or 3036 read the same temperature, the DC damper actuator has usually failed open. We replace it, recalibrate the sensors, and watch the split hold over a full day, which matters more in a compact unit with less buffer than a full-size fridge.
